Even though i have seen this movie before , I can definitely say it is one of the most mad love stories ever. It all starts as a game turning more and more dangerous. A boy and a girl. They grow up together daring each other , and even though they are madly in love with each other, nobody admits until it’s too late. The stake gets higher and higher as they grow. Games, hatred,pleasure, friendship, tears, love, endless love if so at some point they don’t see each other for ten years. You can only imagine how full , how fulfilling this feeling is for them by simply reading these words: “Pure, raw, explosive pleasure! Better than drugs, better than smack! Better than a dope-coke-crack-fix-shit-shoot-sniff-ganja-marijuana-blotter-acid-ecstasy! Better than sex, head, 69, orgies, masturbation, tantrism, Kama Sutra or Thai doggy-style! Better than banana milkshakes! Better than George Lucas’s trilogy, the muppets and 2001! Better than Emma Peel, Marilyn, Lara Croft and Cindy Crawford’s beauty mark! Better than the B-side to Abbey Road, Jimmy Hendrix and the first man on the moon! Space Mountain, Santa Claus, Bill Gates’ fortune, the Dalai Lama, Lazarus raised from the dead! Schwarzenegger’s testosterone shots, Pam Anderson’s lips! Woodstock, raves… Better than Sade, Rimbaud, Morrison and Castaneda! Better than freedom, better than life!

What more can I say ?  If you haven’t watched this yet, go buy it, rent it, borrow it, it’s a great movie, great script, and makes you wonder if you ever in your life could feel at least half of that…

Fast and Furious 4 Saturday, May 2 2009

I finally had the chance to see Fast and Furious 4. I’m glad I didn’t wasted my time to go see it in a cinema,saw it at home on DVD.The movie is OK. Not so much special effects, and the story is predictable,you kinda realize from the beginning who is going to win and who is going to die.Vin Diesel is again Dominic Toretto while Paul Walker(Brian O’Connor) is now a big shot in FBI.They start against each other but of course they end up helping each other.Thumbs up for the OST of the movie, just listen to Pitbull feat. Pharrel -Blanco .If your a big fan go watch it, if not, don’t waist your time,it’s not worth it.Just my humble opinion..


 

Memories from the Golden Age/ Amintiri din Epoca de Aur Tuesday, Apr 28 2009

Cristian Mungiu a known director here in Romania managed to snatch the big prize at Cannes Festival in 2007 using  a sad story to impress the judges. The movie  was called ” 4 luni , 3 saptamani, si doua zile / 4 months, 3 weeks and two days ” . Personally i wasn’t impressed by the idea of the movie.The subject was harsh and as always communism related.It seems us Eastern Europeans have this tendency of always complaning what a hard life we had, and how much we suffered during that period of time.I’m not saying it wasn’t hard hence my anterior post a week or so ago, but i think we should try and do something happy,cheerful, vivid, i ‘m just growing tired of the same cliche,same story.Anyway back to my point i should add that now Cristian Mungiu  is trying to catch our attention (and hopefully of the judges too) with a new production inspired from the 80′ , called “Memories of the Golden age/ Amintiri din Epoca de Aur”. The  new production has six mini-episodes and lasts thirty minutes,showing us the life and comic situations some carachters pass through that period of time. We wish him ” knock em’ dead” and bring the big prize home again.

Todo Sobre Mi Madre/ All About My Mother Monday, Apr 13 2009

I always thought that Pedro Almodovar was the best Spanish director.Born on 25 September 1951, started his career as an assistant in a local Spaniard phone company, did a bit  of theatre  and then  moved towards making movies.It was hard at first, started with short films who didn’t even had sounds. Technical and financial difficulties stopped him showing the world his vision of the heavy criticized, sometimes hidden life of gay and lesbian people and not only. Most of his movies are based on sexuality, desire , passion, finding one self, family …

His first full length  movie was Folle, folle, fólleme, Tim ( Fuck ,fuck ,fuck me Tim ) back in 1978. He started gathering people around him and succeeded making his first feature film called Pepi, Luci, Bom y otras chicas del monton ( Pepi, Luci,Bom and other girls on the heap).  In the next years, he continued to pour out his love for drama, friendship,women and love. “Labyrinth of  Passions” , “Dark Habits ” , “Law of desire” , ” High Heels” , ” Talk to her ” , “Volver ” are just a few of his movies. But we’re not here to talk about those right now. I wanted to talk about ” Todo sobre mi madre/ All about my mother”  a pretty interesting movie for  those who have an open mind and don’t tend to judge a book by its covers. I’m not going to disclose a lot of of information about it. Just watch it. Remember that things are not always what they seem, and in this life and century , we have to accept and try to understand  that not all people are a  copy /paste of us.We are born males or females, but our character and personality is what makes us unique. I should add the fact that Pedro Almodovar is openly gay and his muse is not as you would tend to think ,a guy ,but a woman, and I think we all might guess who she is,  recently Oscar winner, Penelope Cruz .
